According to recent findings, most brides these days want to lose 20 pounds before their wedding.
That’s about a 15 percent decrease in their total body weight — a goal that is difficult to reach without serious dieting. But that doesn’t stop many women from attempting it. Cornell University researchers surveyed nearly 300 engaged women and found 70 percent of them wanted to lose weight by their wedding day. 14 percent had already bought a dress that was 1 or 2 sizes smaller than their current size. Drinking lots of water was the most common weight loss technique, but more than one-third of brides admitted using extreme measures such as diet pills, fasting or skipping meals. Bridal boot camps — condensed and intense exercise routines are modeled after military training — are now on the rise all over the country. Experts say exercise is generally good for you, but that brides should start slowly and know their limits — because it’s most important to be healthy, not necessarily skinny, on the wedding day.
